Ecuador didn't think he overstayed his welcome, the British twisted their arm and forced them to let them inside. Julian's arrest was illegal and shouldn't have happened. I don't know if it was possible to get a car into their embassy but they should've done it and had it labelled a diplomatic bag so the British couldn't search it and used it to get him out of there. Yes, diplomatic bags work like that.

The American consulate in my city is the ugliest thing I've seen in my life. What did they think when they built it? "That's not our city, so we can place a cement cube here"

American embassies are often designed as fortresses, just in case they'll have to protect them with force.

I have heard about a story in Pakistan, a US diplomat shot and killed normal people in Pakistan, even car crash upon 2 people....

Yet the police didn't even do anything. They just ignored the crime.

I was shocked to hear that. It would be great to become diplomat.... Sadly Noone of my family is in politics.. So I could never be so.... Even if I was expert in that.

When i hear "embassy" i really hear "clandestine spy operator stuff". If they are not at a posh do they are explaining why a "person of interest" in the host country was last seen wiping their arse in your embassy.

There were a lot of mistakes in this video. The one that really annoyed me though was using **Google Maps** to show off other country's buildings in Washington DC. You were literally talking about how these buildings were supposed to be full of amazing design to show off their mother country, but then couldn't spend enough time to get even a minimal amount of quality in the portrayal of said buildings. When the topic is of "Countries building beautiful buildings to show themselves off to others", it's a bit disrespectful to then use the lowest quality images of those buildings.

Can't the police besiege an embassy, though? Eventually, the diplomats will run out of food and will be forced to leave the building.

Very interesting video. When I was in college I considered going into the foreign service with an intention of being stationed overseas for most of my career. Little did I know then how totally wrong I was for that job. So glad I wound up taking a different direction. I would never have done well working for the government. Too independent. Also wouldn't have been good at all the pomp and circumstance of diplomacy. Too blunt and annoyed by artifice.

The US does not use its embassies for the purpose they are there for. Look at Iraq, now about 12000 employees...But how many US citizens are there? Embassies are for representation of the nation and for the host country to lodge compaints or to lets say pass message son to the official government of that embassy. Yes for the citizens of the country in that foreign land also. But for example, the case of Iraq, it is clear thet the US embassy is being used for spying and for tactical and warfare purposes. You would have to be an idiot to not see this. With the tensions created by the US against Iran and North Korea it makes sense. And they have CIA operattives housed there to conduct their missions and surveliamnce. The US is not an honest borker and has never been. The sooner people realise this in those weak countries and form other alliances the better. But as long as the money the US provides corrpupt officials and government is enough for them, then things wont change...But we need change...

9:24 i really like your videos but i have to strongly disagree. war is NOT "big business". at least not for a country. the only people who make big money off of war are companies like Heckler & Koch. Countries ALWAYS lose money on war which is why no counrty (as far as i know) is engaged in an active war.
