This is a rule in high school in Nebraska. Had this happen with a JV game in school back in 2000. Other team got two free throws before the game when one of my teammates dunked and I think we still won so no big deal.

Players warm up way longer than 20 minutes... you can go to games right as the gates open and they’ll be warming up

I almost did a spit take when I heard UNF actually mentioned in the world of sports, the school I went to before transferring to UF basically never gets mentioned because it only started recruiting athletes when it became a 4 year university in 2010

I grew up watching Ohio University’s basketball team in the late 90’s/early 2000’s and I would swear they used to dunk all the time during the pre game warm up and I don’t think I ever saw anyone get a T for it.

I actually saw that rule live!

My local HS basketball team was in the 2nd round in the playoffs. They were down 5 during halftime. Both teams came out of the locker rooms and warmed-up for a little bit. During the layup lines, one of the guys on the other team did a dunk.
My local team's coach called him out to the refs. There was a 15-minute conversation between the refs, the coaches, and the scorekeepers to figure out what to do. The refs finally found the rule, gave the dunker the technical foul, and gave my local team the 2 shots. The kid for my local team made them both, but we ended up losing by 7.

Kind of a rule in Delaware but the refs only care if you actually touch the rim. Idk why but no rim touching before tip off.

Most of these weird rules for basketball are really common. Especially this one.

A similar thing happened in my youth basketball league in Italy. There was this hideous super technical ref hated by everybody. My coach and him argued even before the match started and gave him a tech. So we started the game with 2 free throws and a inbound pass. Before the end of the 2nd quarter they argued again, 2nd tech and was ejected

That was a rule because basketball hoops would get broken before the invention of the breakaway rim and not using real glass for the backboard.

I don't know if the break the backboard before the game ejection rule still is in effect. However, you're likely fine to break a backboard during a game. Shaq did it a few times.
