Jacob Collier deconstructs a Stevie Wonder classic

The most challenging part of making this video was visually interpreting the song and Jacob's explanation in a clear way for musical amateurs (just like me). There's one moment around 2:15 where Jacob says "A flat minor." Now, as I'm animating, I'm also learning new things about music theory, and fact checking them. This moment completely stumped me, because "A flat minor" - I learned - is the enharmonic equivalent of "G sharp minor." In clearer terms, they are the same chord, though many people find "G sharp minor" to be the simpler alternative.

So, should he have said "G sharp minor instead?" Please discuss that amicably below. From my perspective, it would have been more complicated and confusing to write "G sharp minor" as he said "A flat minor." Also "A flat minor" needs more love. Please clap for #Aflatminor.

And if you want to help me make even more Vox Earworm videos, the best way to do that is by joining the Video Lab: http://bit.ly/vox-video-membership. Thanks!

If I was reading music and I saw Ab instead of G# it would be so weird now that I think about it

Hey Vox, stick to this kind of stuff and stay out of politics. You'll have much more of a universal appeal and respect.

Couldn't agree more with everyyyything about this video, Stevie is perfection, Jacob is the next best thing, crocs are on point, video editing is exciting and entertaining and the wealth of knowledge and information crammed in is just awesome.

Backbeat snare on 2 & 4 is a Motown Staple? How about an all Electric blues, all R&B, all Rock, all Country, all Funk and all related pop staple?

Interesting to hear Jacob Collier describe Stevie Wonder as one of the greatest musicians walking the face of the earth - since it seems like Jacob may be the next in line to take that position.

This video is SO overproduced. Has nobody ever told Estelle that less is more? Nobody who wants to watch this kind of video has such a short attention span that they need background music throughout to hold their attention. Compare this to Jacob’s brilliant video with Herbie Hancock for Wired. Just Jacob, his guests and the sounds of their voices and instruments.

From 1970-1975 Stevie directly chanelled God after the Beatles broke up, those albums are amazing.

I'm absolutely abysmal with knowing song titles or artists based on songs so I honestly didn't know it was called "Sir Duke" but it's song is ones of those that just envelopes you, you feel it run through you, it takes you along for this wild ride and its just wonderful.

Yes, I'm from an older generation, maybe even 2.
But please show some elementary respect, both to the original song, to its composer, who is still alive and active by the way as of sept.'19, and to music as an art form in general.
I'll further refrain from commenting on the pedantics of a millenial (albeit a genius) analysing an evergreen by one of the greatest contemporary composers.
